Baur Group Says Goodbye To 38 Trainees

By Lisa Wand

In the past few months 38 young people were able to finish their training in Baur Group companies. Thirty of them completed their training or dual courses of study at Baur Versand. They were trained to become photographers, warehouse specialists, informatics specialists and media designers, amongst other things. The young people who completed a dual course of study specialised in trade, textile management and sales management. Eight former trainees studied at Baur Fulfillment Solutions and can now call themselves “businessmen and women for dialogue marketing.”

According to tradition, Baur director Albert Klein, personnel manager Sabine Kratochwil, head instructor Max-Josef Weismeier and spokeswoman for training Doreen Nagel invited the former trainees to the restaurant Nepomuk in Altenkunstadt. Here, they congratulated them on their successfully completed training and presented them with training certificates and lovingly packed gifts. In an emotional speech manager Albert Klein stressed that a new phase was now starting in the lives of the former trainees in which they can prove that in the past few years they studied not for school but for life. Furthermore, many of them will find employment in the Baur Group. Some will also leave the company, for example to pursue further studies.

Monster Pig killed by eleven-year old boy

Saturday, May 26, 2007

The mainstream press has recently uncovered the story of a wild pig, nicknamed ‘Monster Pig‘ killed on May 3, 2007, by an eleven year-old boy, Jamison Stone. The location is disclosed as a 2,500-acre commercial hunting preserve called Lost Creek Plantation, outside Anniston, Alabama.

The wild hog weighed 1,051 lbs. and was 9 ft. 4 in. from the tip of its snout to the end of its tail. The hog’s head was mounted on an extra-large foam form and measured 54 inches around the head, 74 inches around the shoulders and 11 inches from the eyes to the end of its snout. The balance of the hog is being turned into approximately 500 to 700 lbs of sausage. Jerry Cunningham, an Oxford taxidermist, said it was, “[the] Biggest thing I’d ever seen”. Wildlife specialist Dr. Jim Armstrong commented on the size said, “You might get a boar that weighs 300 or so, [Monster Pig] that’s a big pig”.

Stone said he shot the pig eight times using a Smith & Wesson Model 500 with a holographic scope and ported barrel firing 350-grain Hornady cartridges. Stone had to chase the hog for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot.

It was a pretty uneventful thing until the day after, I hadn’t seen a lot of pigs up close. I didn’t know it was a monster pig. I just knew it was as big as a cow.

The web host godaddy.com for the official web site monsterpig.com advised Stone that the number of hits totaled 1,246,464 as of Monday, May 21st.

Two previous record holders are Hogzilla a wild hog that was shot and killed in Alapaha, Georgia, on June 17, 2004, by Chris Griffin on Ken Holyoak’s farm and hunting reserve. It was alleged to be 12 feet (3.6 meters) long and to weigh 1,000 pounds (450 kg). Its weight was later determined to be closer to 800 lbs. A second involved local news media that reported on January 5, 2007, an 1,100 pound (500 kg) hog was shot in Fayetteville, Georgia. The shooter was William Corsey, who hung the specimen from a tree in his yard. A spokesperson from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that large boars and feral hogs were common in South Georgia, but that no records are kept on them. The media latched on to the notion that this animal rivals the size of Hogzilla.

Recovering Your Dining Room Chairs In 3 Easy Steps

By Jason Scott

There are some projects that you really should hire a professional to do, and then there are others that may seem difficult, but that you can save money and do yourself. Recovering you padded dining room chairs is this type of project. It may look difficult, but it is a project that anyone with a pair of scissors and a staple gun can easily do themselves.

Step 1: Pick your Padding and Fabric

Probably the hardest thing that you are going to have to do for this project is to choose the fabric that you want to use. Generally fabric is sold by the yard, so you will have to figure out how much fabric your project requires. Not only do you have to measure the seat size, but your need ample fabric to cover the sides of the seat as well as fold under the cushion.

Generally armchairs have a little bigger seat then the rest of the chairs, so make sure that you allow for this as you figure out how much material you will need. It is a good idea to get all of your fabric at once, and make sure that it is from the same bolt so that your color is consistent. If you are getting a patterned fabric, keep in mind that stripes and plaids may be difficult to line up on the cushion.

Unless the existing cushion cover is soiled or worn, you may be able to leave it in place and place your new fabric over it. You will have to remove the old fabric if it is heavily textured and you are replacing it with a lighter and sheerer fabric. You may also have to remove the old fabric if it is a bold color and you are covering it with a light fabric. If the padding is in good shape, then leave it in tact, otherwise remove and measure it, so that you can replace it.

Once you have all of your measurements, head to the fabric store and select a good quality fabric and pattern. Make sure that it works with your current dcor, and if you are not sure, bring samples home to evaluate you choices before buying.

Step 2: Out with the Old

Now you are ready to remove the seats from your chairs. Usually the seat cushion is held in place with a screw. Turn your chair over; remove the screw and the cushion should be easy to remove.

Now flip the seat cushion upside down, and with a flat head screwdriver pry the staples away from the cushion. As you are removing the staples, notice how the fabric is folded and stapled, so you can apply the new fabric in a similar manner. If you are replacing fabric or padding remove them, otherwise, leave them in place.

Step 3: In with the New

If you remove the old fabric and padding, you can use them as a template, otherwise you will have to measure out your fabric. Cut your new fabric about 1/8 inch larger than the old fabric. If you are measuring, make sure to measure the cushion, both sides and at least several inches to fold under the cushion.

Make sure that your work surface is clear and clean. Then lay down your fabric. Place your cushion in the center of the fabric and pull the fabric over the edge of the seat; place the first staple in the front center of the bottom of the cushion. Then pull the fabric taught and place a staple in the center of the rear of the cushion. Do the same for the center of each side. Working outward from the center on each side, repeat these steps until all of the fabric is secured to the cushion.

Fold your corners the same way that the original fabric was folded and trim any extra material. After the fabric is securely fastened to the seat cushion, simply reattach the seat cushion to the chair with a screw and youre done!

Australian House of Representatives grows heated over industrial relations legislation

Thursday, November 3, 2005

Australian industral relations reform legislationmade up of 700 pages of bill legislation and 500 additional pages of explanatory memoranda was introduced into the Federal House of Representatives November 2, where the Opposition heatedly attempted to address their perceived problem of the Government’s lack of discussion and debate over the matter.

The first reading of the bill was the first order of the day, and when Kevin Andrews tried to do so, Opposition member Stephen Smith, responsible for workplace relations, immediately moved a motion deferring the bills to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Employment, Workplace Relations and Workforce Participation. The Leader of the House, Tony Abbott moved that Smith and the necessary supporter — viz., Julia Gillard — be not further heard (cloture). The Government’s majority in the House ensured that this would happen. However, Opposition members attempted to use House standing orders necessitating that copies of the bill to be “available to Members”, with argument arising whether “available to Members” meant all members or simply whether some copies should be available; this ended up in a dissent motion moved against the Speaker of the House.

Later, in a heated Question Time, where six members of the Opposition, (Kelly Hoare, Julia Irwin, Anthony Albanese, Bernard Ripoll, Catherine King, and Gavan O’Connor), were removed from the Chamber during Question Time under standing orders for disruption — Jill Hall quipped that she was “glad to be still here to ask [her] question” — nearly all questions to the Government put by the Opposition, the subsequent time for matters of public importance, and some members in the adjournment debate, was all on the topic of the industrial relations reform.

To implement and fund the legislation, the government will “spend an additional $486million on industrial relations changes over four years, or $121million a year. This spending would be in addition to the present annual budget of $86million.” said an unnamed government source for The Australian.

The government will need to use its corporation powers to remove the powers from the states to alter the award conditions and other employee employer related conditions. But the New South Wales premier Morris Iemma has received legal advice that the legislation maybe unconstitutional, the reason being its being used to end the role of the states and territories Australian States in the industrial relations system. “It is our view that the Commonwealth is misusing this law to achieve exactly what it was designed to prevent”, Iemma said. Mr Iemma will be challenging the changes in the high court with Peter Beattie Premier of Queensland supporting his challenge in the High Court.

Microsoft extends warranty for all Xbox 360s

Saturday, December 23, 2006

On December 22, 2006 Microsoft has announced that it has extended its warranty for all Xbox 360 video game consoles to one year in the United States. While this one year warranty applies to all Xbox 360 software as well, Xbox 360 accessories will still carry their original 90 day warranty.

According to a statement by Microsoft:

“Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console’s purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.”

This extension should help ease customers’ minds who have been concerned with the Xbox 360’s reputation for hardware failures. A partial list of hardware issues can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems

People who have paid for Xbox 360 repair will be automatically distributed a reimbursement check in about 10 weeks from the present date.

Previously in September, 2006, Microsoft had waived the cost for repairs on all Xbox 360 consoles made before January 1, 2006, and refunded any fees already paid.

A full description of the updated warranty can be found here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/resources/warranty.htm

La Caja Asadora Vs. La Caja China: Price Matters

La Caja Asadora vs. La Caja China: Price Matters

by

Mathew Masters

The first thing most people who have owned a

La Caja China Roasting Box

notice when they build their new

La Caja Asadora

(Spanish for

The Roasting Box

) is just how alike they look. In fact, they are very difficult to tell apart from their size and components. Both brands offer a

48 x 24 x 20

standard model. Both units come with an interior drip pan, two stainless steel racks for the pig or other meat, four stainless steel hooks to secure the racks together, an ash pan that seals the caja china box at the top, and a charcoal grid that goes above it. Both roasters are also easily portable, with front wheels and long handles. Because both are the same size and share their components the cooking times are also very similar, with a typical whole pig roast taking approximately four hours to complete. Both brands offer their

caja china style cooker

with a metal interior lining, and wood exterior.

So as you can see, the essential elements of this

caja china

s (or

Cajun microwave

) grills are the same. Now let s outline the differences. Included with your

La Caja Asadora

are also cooking mitts and a marinating syringe, which do not come included with the

La Caja China roasting box

, and will typically cost

$20-30

when purchased separately. And the other and most important difference the price of the box itself.

The

La Caja China #1 model

retails for

$319

. The

La Caja Asadora

of the same size is

$195

. That s a $125 difference. It s hard to justify paying over 60% more for a pig roaster of the same size, with such similar components strictly for the name on the side. Both brands also offer a full line of accessories, including covers, remote meat thermometers, top grills, rotisseries, cookbooks, marinades, and more. There is a reason that

La Caja Asadora grills

are gaining a larger and larger share of the caja china market, and the reason is price, price, price.

Controversial Berlin opera features interactive drug usage

Friday, August 26, 2005

Berlin’s Neukoellner Opera House is causing a stir with its new production, The Yellow Princess.

The story presented in the French opera, by Camille Saint-Saens, is of an artist “whose life is dictated by a love for drugs and Japan.” As a result, the performers smoke cannabis joints on stage, and the theatre itself is encouraging the audience to join in.

Artistic director Bernhard Glocksin says that the theatre is claiming the metaphorical “artistic licence”, to excuse the actions of the actors and audience, which are against German law. Glocksin was quoted by Ananova as saying opera would be “improved with a few joints and some appetising lines”, noting the production was partly an experiment, to see what they could “get away with.”

Artistic licence” is at par to an “artistic liberty”, where something is exaggerated or changed for the sake of the art itself. For example a visual artist painting a landscape might move a tree to another area of their work, for better balance, or a poet ignoring pentameter when writing a traditional sonnet.

Ladakh Adventurous Hilltop Monasteries

Submitted by: Anil Kumar Raju A

Ladakh is a land predominantly Buddhist enclave in northern India, between Pakistan and China. Virtually inaccessible to Western travelers until 1974, its high valleys perched at 4000 meters – including that of Zanskar – home to villages and monasteries or life seems not to have changed for a thousand years. In the light of day nascent, the ancestral hall of prayer Lingshed Gompa is already flooded with smoke. It smells like wet wood fire and hot cake of barley, a novice is salted tea with yak butter, a strong drink and fat little stomach compatible with Western, especially at this early hour While meditation begins The murmur of severe old monks filled the room and rises louder and louder, punctuated by the litany of prayer wheels … We are at the other end of the world. Five days of walking apart from the monastery Lingshed the first village to the south, in the heart of the Zanskar And if one continues north, it takes five days to reach the Indus Valley. Lingshed is a mandatory stop for trekkers who go into summer in the great crossing of the Zanskar in 10 days.

The reception of monks is comforting, so it is advisable to take a full day of rest if you want to get to the end of the trek in good shape. Especially after facing the neck of the Hanamul and 4700 meters and cons before embarking on The Singil, which rises to over 5000 meters! This region is cut off from the rest of the world for six months of the year is certainly one of the most isolated valleys of Ladakh with almost 4000 meters of altitude and steep mountain passes One of the highest inhabited regions the planet, it’s that isolation that has led to the installation of Buddhism among the populations in South Zanskaris blocked by the great Himalayas and north by the Karakoram. There is an island, farming and yak Dzo (hybrid Yak and cows), barley crops are on the terrace during the summer and September is the harvest. Then comes an endless winter during which the only possibility of communication is the frozen Zanskar River, which winds its way between huge cliffs. Then form small human caravans that wind over the ice towards the Indus. The temperature is minus 15 degrees and very dangerous crossing. Sometimes the ice gave way under the weight of men and their cargo, mostly yak butter that the Mountaineers will sell at Leh, Ladakh Places of Upper. They come back with salt, sugar, spices and manufactured products not found in the mountains But once the ice begins to melt, the parade becomes impassable, as the Zanskar gorges are deep. It must then wait several weeks before the high passes are again free of snow in summer, finally opens an access road through the bodywork Pass The Parsi (4400 m).

We can then trade with Lower Ladakh and Kashmir Muslim neighbor. The whole country is dotted gompa (monasteries), some are older than 500 years. For generations, communities of monks and nuns to provide education of young disciples and transmission of Buddhist doctrines. Built on a mountainside monasteries are real miniature cities, essential to the social life of the high valleys. The lower floors are occupied by the kitchens, granaries, workshops and chambers of novices. Live above the older monks and the upper floors are reserved for meditation rooms. Buddhism appeared in India in the fifth century BC, but it was only around the year 1000 as the Lamaism (Tibetan Buddhism) arrived in Ladakh. There are two doctrines. The first, that the former is called “small vehicle”, it is an individual quest for enlightenment. While the second most recent is called “great vehicle”, the follower sacrifices his own quest for serenity for the benefit of others. The Dalai Lama frequently visit the monasteries of Ladakh, at least the most accessible. For example, those of the Indus Valley, it is possible to achieve a 4×4 in the day from Leh. You can sometimes spend the night or plant near the camp. Others are reachable at the cost of several days of walking, like Lingshed There are others still more distant, like that of Desk at the entrance to the Nubra Valley, which requires passing the highest pass bodywork of the world, Khardung it to 5600 meters Throughout the year, amazing religious festivals are celebrated, attracting huge crowds of pilgrims. But why for centuries, monks and villagers have they sought to move ever higher and farther in the mountains? Contrary to romantic legend, they are not spiritual reasons that have guided this choice, but only of economic processes. The high Himalayas to the south forming a barrier, little rainfall water the Ladakh is a cold desert altitude (with the exception of a few oases of life along the Indus, expertly maintained by ingenious systems irrigation).

Farmers are therefore forced to look at high altitude land made fertile by the melting snows and nomadic herders are also fodder for their animals. But tragic paradox: the higher, the better crop yields and life becomes more fragile because of lack of oxygen and high infant mortality. There is a limit beyond which the villages and monasteries p riclitent cyclically adjusted constantly by new generations who still persist to climb.
