The Simplest Procedure For Botox

The simplest procedure for Botox

by

dorisgloria

Cosmetic surgery is fast becoming a thing we regularly do just like going shopping or a having a spa massage. It has become so ordinary that we don t even get surprised when we get to learn a friend or a family member casually talks about having had one or many of it. Among the many cosmetic procedures available today, Botox is one of the most popularly availed. \\r\\n\\r\\nBotox is actually a trademark of age-defying chemicals, together with Dysport and Xeomin that hold off wrinkles to regain that much coveted youthful appearance. As its advertisements claim, Botox removes unwanted wrinkles, lines on the forehead, frown lines, crow s feet under eyes and ugly neck bands, all in the quest of looking younger and fresher despite advances in age. To be specific, Botox does not work on damage caused by sun exposure and gravity.\\r\\n\\r\\nBotox is a purified form of botinum toxic, which proves that rumors being circulated referring to Botox as a botulism risk is so untrue. In fact, in 2002 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its use for cosmetic surgery. With this recognition, it is impossible for Botox to be harmful to people, provided it is used in moderation. As with any other product, anything in excess is harmful. Botox works on nerves by blocking the signals that it sends to the muscles to achieve that wrinkle-free appearance.\\r\\n\\r\\nFor more details contact:\\r\\n\\r\\nhttp://www.maisondeleumas.com/\\r\\n\\r\\nPeople flock to Cosmetic Surgery in Columbus Ohio to avail of the procedure even during lunch break or even in the middle of a busy day because it will only take a few minutes to do it. Also, no anesthesia is administered so there will not be any down time or recovery period needed to wear off the effects of anesthesia on the body. Pain from the injection will hardly be felt even without anesthesia because a very fine needle is used to inject the medicine into specific muscles that need some repair . Only some minor discomfort is experienced during the treatment process. Improvements may be fully noticeable in three days to a week after the procedure.\\r\\n\\r\\nYou can enjoy the youthful appearance that Botox Injections in Columbus Ohio produces for about four to six months. What s an added come-on to this treatment process is that even if lines start to reappear as muscle action slowly returns; it is not as severe as that before Botox was first administered because now the muscles are more relaxed.\\r\\n\\r\\nCost for Botox procedures are generally shouldered by clients from their own pocket since it is not covered by insurance if used for cosmetic purposes. With the happiness and benefits one gets from the treatment procedure, who would mind paying for it on their own?\\r\\n\\r\\nFor more details visit:\\r\\n\\r\\nhttp://www.maisondeleumas.com/botox.php

Food with cancer-causing dye recalled in Britain

Saturday, April 30, 2005

The British Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a recall of foods containing banned dyes which increase the risk of cancer. The food products were sold at the Tesco, Waitrose, and Somerfield supermarkets.

A Bristol company called “Barts Spices” found the illegal Para Red substance in their Barts Ground Paprika, which was sold in 48g and 46g jars with a “Co-op” label. The batch codes on the affected products are 5032 and 5089 (expiration Dec 2007), and 5075 (expiration February 2007).

Tesco also found that their 130g package of BBQ rice cakes (expiration November and December 2005) contained both Para Red and Sudan I.

“It would be very prudent to assume that it could be a genotoxic carcinogen,” FSA scientific advisers told reporters.

“As a company committed to supplying only the very finest quality food ingredients, we took the immediate decision to withdraw our ground paprika spice from all outlets selling the product and advertised a product recall in the national press,” a Barts Spices spokesman said in a statement.

Sudan I is only authorized for industrial use to colorize petroleum products, such as shoe polish. Para Red and Sudan I are banned under the British Colours in Food Regulations of 1995.

Britain last went through a major food recall in February, when Worcester Sauce was found to contain chili powder dyed with Sudan 1.

Toronto prepares for Monday transit strike

Saturday, April 9, 2005

The Toronto Transit Commission is expected to strike Monday. The TTC workers union, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113, rejected a deal offered by TTC management. They last went on strike in 1999. The average daily ridership exceeds 1.3 million passengers.

The city of Toronto has prepared to help deal with the forecasted traffic congestion by opening up free parking for car-pools at 14 city-owned community centres, banning parking on some city streets, and opening up some bus-only lanes to car-pools.

The initial deal, which was rejected, offered a 2% wage increase over five years. With a huge turnout the union-members voted against accepting the offer with a 99% majority according to a press release by the union. The union rejected the latest offer Friday reported to be a three-year contract with raises of 2.75 percent in the first year, three percent in the second and 3.25 percent in the third.

A Shortcut To Medical Device Reimbursement In France

By Amir Inbar

This is a second article in this series. The first article, A Shortcut to Medical Device Reimbursement in Germany, can be downloaded at: http://www.mediclever.com/resources/5.pdf

You plan on getting your product approved in Europe and complete the CE mark process relatively quickly. You know France presents the 2nd largest market for medical devices in Europe and you already have a few French physicians interested in using your product. But, how can you get the French payers, aka health insurance funds (caisses dassurance maladie) to pay for it – fast?

Here is one possible, intermediate mechanism, designed to serve as a gateway for introducing innovative medical devices into the French inpatient reimbursement system.

1. The Problem

Reimbursement for a hospital inpatient stay in the US is determined according to a Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Group (MS-DRG). Similarly, reimbursement for a hospital inpatient stay in France is determined according to a Homogeneous Group of Stay (Groupe Homogne de Sjour, GHS). In both cases, if a new device does not fit into an existing DRG/GHS the hospital may not be properly reimbursed for its added cost and thus may not want to use it.

On the other hand, forming a new GHS code to reflect the added costs associated with your new device requires data collection of procedure utilization. But since your device doesnt currently fit into one of the French GHS codes, hospitals are reluctant to use it, and therefore it will never reach sufficient utilization to justify the creation of a new GHS code.

Sounds like a Catch-22, right?

To encourage entry of new and innovative technologies into the French healthcare system, innovative devices may be added to the add-on list (liste en sus), which provides hospitals with the required financial incentive to use a new device, before it is properly reimbursed under the GHS system. However, it seems as if most US medical device companies are unaware of this mechanism that could shorten their time-to-market and even increase their chances of influencing the payment rate of a relevant GHS code in the future.

In the next part I will provide a short description of the French GHS system, and then discuss the liste en sus mechanism in detail.

2. French GHS System

The French DRG system, or GHS system, groups several parameters to classify each patient’s stay in a Homogeneous Group of Patients (Groupe Homogne de Maladies, GHM). Thereafter, each GHM is associated with its financial counterpart, the GHS.

The GHS system is a ‘leaning system’, relying on quantitative data supplied to the Technical Agency of Information on Hospitalization (Agence technique de linformation sur lhospitalisation, ATIH) by ~45 reporting hospitals throughout the year. The data gathered during 2011 is applied in the 2013 GHS catalog.

3. Liste en Sus

To get listed on the liste en sus, the product needs to get listed on France’s list of reimbursable products (Liste des Produits et Prestations Remboursables, LPPR), under the products trade name (rather than under a general description).

The validity of the request for inclusion on the LPPR is evaluated by the national Committee for the Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (Commission Nationale dvaluation des Dispositifs Mdicaux et des Technologies de Sant, CNEDiMTS), which bases its decision in particular on the dossier requesting reimbursement that is typically submitted by the manufacturer.

The devices reimbursement tariff, in addition to the hospital GHS tariff, is then negotiated between the healthcare products pricing committee (Comit Economique des Produits de Sant, CEPS) and the manufacturer.

Inclusion using the brand name is intended to be temporary. In fact, as soon as a competitor appears for the innovative product, inclusion using the generic description form could be justified.

4. Application for Inclusion on the Liste en Sus

In the case of an initial request for inclusion, the guidance of CNEDiMTS is based in particular on assessment of the products Expected Service (Service Attendu, SA) and, if sufficient, on assessment of the Improvement of Expected Service (Amlioration du Service Attendu, ASA).

4.1 Assessment of the expected service (SA)

Assessment of the SA is by indication and is essentially based on an assessment:

of the risk/benefit ratio;

of the role of the device within therapeutic strategy;

of its benefit to public health

4.2 Assessment of improvement of expected service (ASA)

If the expected service is sufficient to justify listing for reimbursement, the guidance of CNEDiMTS will also be based on the ASA in relation to a comparable product, considered to be the current gold standard, whether or not this gold standard is reimbursed. This assessment classifies the added clinical value as major (I), substantial (II), moderate (III), minor (IV) or absent (V) for each indication for which the committee considers that there is evidence to justify listing.

4.3 Setting the Tariff

Determination of the tariffs mainly takes into account SA, and ASA, when appropriate additional studies requested, tariffs and prices of comparable procedures or products, as well as services included on the list, the volume of anticipated sales and predicted and real conditions of use.

According to the law, the whole process should not take more than 6 months. However, some companies reported much longer time periods.

4.4 Maintaining the Listing

To remain on the list with the assigned level of reimbursement, the manufacturer should resubmit its applications every three years in order to demonstrate real-life data generated by post marketing studies, supporting claims that were used at the basis of the initial application.

If the post marketing study is either not performed, or incomplete, or there is insufficient evidence to show that the product performs as well in actual life, the so-called service rendu rating may drop, and with it the reimbursement level.

5. Statistics

Out of the 148 reviews provided by CNEDiMTS during 2009, 76 (51.3%) were provided for products submitted for the first time, 12 (8.1%) concerned requests for modifications, 51 (34.5%) concerned renewals and 9 (6.1%) were classified as other requests.

Out of the 88 reviews that concerned first submittals and modification requests, 62 were granted a sufficient SA grade, while 26 were granted a non-sufficient SA. For the assessment of improvement of expected service (ASA), only 2 products received ASA level I (major) and 4 received ASA level II (substantial).

6. Benefits and Disadvantages

6.1 Benefits:

* Inclusion on the liste en sus could lead to immediate increase in procedure and sales volume.

* As opposed to the equivalent NUB process in Germany, the manufacturer and not each individual hospital, negotiates the added reimbursement, which is then applicable for all hospitals, for up to 3 years.

6.2 Disadvantages:

* The process requires review of at least two separate agencies (CNEDiMTS and CEPS), which lengthens the process and requires substantial resources from the manufacturers side.

* On an annual average, only 3 to 4 new products receive an ASA level of I or II that justifies separate reimbursement.

7. Summary

The French healthcare system is trying to cope with the built-in delays of integrating innovative diagnostic and therapeutic treatments into the system. Similar to the French liste en sus, comparable reimbursement mechanisms exist in Germany, the UK and in some regions of Italy. Utilizing these mechanisms can help US companies obtain reimbursement in Europe faster and bring their products to market sooner.

Death sentences in 2008 Chinese tainted milk scandal

Monday, January 26, 2009

On Thursday, the municipal intermediate people’s court in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, China pronounced sentences for 21 defendants implicated in the 2008 Chinese milk scandal which killed at least six infants and sickened nearly 300,000 others.

In the local court’s decision, 17 accused were indicted for the crimes of “producing, adding melamine-laced ‘protein powder’ to infant milk or selling tainted, fake and substandard milk to Sanlu Group or 21 other dairy companies, including six who were charged with the crime of endangering public security by dangerous means.” Four other courts in Wuji County, in Hebei, China had also tried cases on the milk scandal.

Zhang Yujun, age 40, of Quzhou County (Hebei), who produced and sold melamine-laced “protein powder” in the milk scandal, was convicted of endangering public security and sentenced to death by the Shijiazhuang intermediate people’s court.

The court also imposed the penalty of death upon Geng Jinping, who added 434 kg of melamine-laced powder to about 900 tons of fresh milk to artificially increase the protein content. He sold the tainted milk to Sanlu and some other dairy companies. His brother Geng Jinzhu was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for assisting in adding the melamine.

A suspended capital punishment sentence, pending a review, with two years probation, was handed down to Gao Junjie. Under the law, a suspended death sentence is equivalent to life imprisonment with good behavior. The court ruled that Gao designed more than 70 tons of melamine-tainted “protein powder” in a Zhengding County underground factory near Shijiazhuang. His wife Xiao Yu who assisted him, was also sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Sanlu Group General Manager Tian Wenhua, 66, a native of Nangang Village in Zhengding County, who was charged under Articles 144 and 150 of the criminal code, was sentenced to life imprisonment for producing and selling fake or substandard products. She was also fined 20 million yuan (US$2.92 million) while Sanlu, which has been declared bankrupt, was fined 49.37 million yuan ($7.3 million).

Tian Wenhua plans to appeal the guilty verdict on grounds of lack of evidence, said her lawyer Liang Zikai on Saturday. Tian testified last month during her trial that she decided not to stop production of the tainted milk products because a Fonterra designated board member handed her a document which states that a maximum of 20 mg of melamine was allowed in every kg of milk in the European Union. Liang opined that Tian should instead be charged with “liability in a major accident,” which is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, instead of manufacturing and selling fake or substandard products.

According to Zhang Deli, chief procurator of the Hebei Provincial People’s Procuratorate, Chinese police have arrested another 39 people in connection with the scandal. Authorities last year also arrested 12 milk dealers and suppliers who allegedly sold contaminated milk to Sanlu, and six people were charged with selling melamine.

In late December, 17 people involved in producing, selling, buying and adding melamine to raw milk went on trial. Tian Wenhua and three other Sanlu executives appeared in court in Shijiazhuang, charged with producing and selling fake or substandard milk contaminated with melamine. Tian pleaded guilty, and told the court during her 14-hour December 31 trial that she learned about the tainted milk complaints and problems with her company’s BeiBei milk powder from consumer complaints in mid-May.

She then apparently led a working team to handle the case, but her company did not stop producing and selling formula until about September 11. She also did not report to the Shijiazhuang city government until August 2.

The court also sentenced Zhang Yanzhang, 20, to the lesser penalty of life imprisonment. Yanzhang worked with Zhang Yujun, buying and reselling the protein powder. The convicts were deprived of their political rights for life.

Xue Jianzhong, owner of an industrial chemical shop, and Zhang Yanjun were punished with life imprisonment and 15 years jail sentence respectively. The court found them responsible for employment of workers to produce about 200 tons of the tainted infant milk formula, and selling supplies to Sanlu, earning more than one million yuan.

“From October 2007 to August 2008, Zhang Yujun produced 775.6 tons of ‘protein powder’ that contained the toxic chemical of melamine, and sold more than 600 tons of it with a total value of 6.83 million yuan [$998,000]. He sold 230 tons of the “protein powder” to Zhang Yanzhang, who will stay behind bars for the rest of his life under the same charge. Both Zhangs were ‘fully aware of the harm of melamine’ while they produced and sold the chemical, and should be charged for endangering the public security,” the Court ruled.

Geng Jinping, a suspect charged with producing and selling poisonous food in the tainted milk scandal, knelt before the court, begging for victims’ forgiveness

The local court also imposed jail sentences of between five years and 15 years upon three top Sanlu executives. Wang Yuliang and Hang Zhiqi, both former deputy general managers, and Wu Jusheng, a former raw milk department manager, were respectively sentenced to 15 years, eight years and five years imprisonment. In addition, the court directed Wang to pay multi-million dollar fines. In December, Wang Yuliang had appeared at the Shijiazhuang local court in a wheelchair, after what the Chinese state-controlled media said was a failed suicide attempt.

The judgment also states “the infant milk powder was then resold to private milk collectors in Shijiazhuang, Tangsan, Xingtai and Zhangjiakou in Hebei.” Some collectors added it to raw milk to elevate apparent protein levels, and the milk was then resold to Sanlu Group.

“The Chinese government authorities have been paying great attention to food safety and product quality,” Yu Jiang Yu, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said. “After the case broke out, the Chinese government strengthened rules and regulations and took a lot of other measures to strengthen regulations and monitor food safety,” she added.

In the People’s Republic of China, the intermediate people’s court is the second lowest local people’s court. Under the Organic Law of the People’s Courts of the People’s Republic of China, it has jurisdiction over important local cases in the first instance and hear appeal cases from the basic people’s court.

The 2008 Chinese milk scandal was a food safety incident in China involving milk and infant formula, and other food materials and components, which had been adulterated with melamine. In November 2008, the Chinese government reported an estimated 300,000 victims have suffered; six infants have died from kidney stones and other acute renal infections, while 860 babies were hospitalized.

Melamine is normally used to make plastics, fertilizer, coatings and laminates, wood adhesives, fabric coatings, ceiling tiles and flame retardants. It was added by the accused to infant milk powder, making it appear to have a higher protein content. In 2004, a watered-down milk resulted in 13 Chinese infant deaths from malnutrition.

The tainted milk scandal hit the headlines on 16 July, after sixteen babies in Gansu Province who had been fed on milk powder produced by Shijiazhuang-based Sanlu Group were diagnosed with kidney stones. Sanlu is 43% owned by New Zealand’s Fonterra. After the initial probe on Sanlu, government authorities confirmed the health problem existed to a lesser degree in products from 21 other companies, including Mengniu, Yili, and Yashili.

From August 2 to September 12 last year Sanlu produced 904 tonnes of melamine-tainted infant milk powder. It sold 813 tonnes of the fake or substandard products, making 47.5 million yuan ($13.25 million). In December, Xinhua reported that the Ministry of Health confirmed 290,000 victims, including 51,900 hospitalized. It further acknowledged reports of “11 suspected deaths from melamine contaminated milk powder from provinces, but officially confirmed 3 deaths.”

Sanlu Group which filed a bankruptcy petition, that was accepted by the Shijiazhuang Intermediate People’s Court last month, and the other 21 dairy companies, have proposed a 1.1 billion yuan ($160 million) compensation plan for court settlement. The court appointed receiver was granted six months to conclude the sale of Sanlu’s assets for distribution to creditors. The 22 dairy companies offered “families whose children died would receive 200,000 yuan ($29,000), while others would receive 30,000 yuan ($4,380) for serious cases of kidney stones and 2,000 yuan ($290) for less severe cases.”

Sanlu stopped production on September 12 amid huge debts estimated at 1.1 billion yuan. On December 19, the company borrowed 902 million yuan for medical and compensation payment to victims of the scandal. On January 16, Sanlu paid compensation of 200,000 yuan (29,247 U.S. dollars) to Yi Yongsheng and Jiao Hongfang, Gangu County villagers, the parents of the first baby who died.

“Children under three years old, who had drunk tainted milk and had disease symptoms could still come to local hospitals for check-ups, and would receive free treatment if diagnosed with stones in the urinary system,” said Mao Qun’an, spokesman of the Ministry of Health on Thursday, adding that “the nationwide screening for sickened children has basically come to an end.”

“As of Thursday, about 90% of families of 262,662 children who were sickened after drinking the melamine-contaminated milk products had signed compensation agreements with involved enterprises and accepted compensation,” the China Dairy Industry Association said Friday, without revealing, however, the amount of damages paid. The Association (CDIA) also created a fund for payment of the medical bills for the sickened babies until they reach the age of 18.

Chinese data shows that those parents who signed the state-backed compensation deal include the families of six children officially confirmed dead, and all but two of 891 made seriously ill, the report said. Families of 23,651 children made ill by melamine tainted milk, however, have not received the compensation offer, because of “wrong or untrue” registration details, said Xinhua.

Several Chinese parents, however, demanded higher levels of damages from the government. Zhao Lianhai announced Friday that he and three other parents were filing a petition to the Ministry of Health. The letter calls for “free medical care and follow-up services for all victims, reimbursement for treatment already paid for, and further research into the long-term health effects of melamine among other demands,” the petition duly signed by some 550 aggrieved parents and Zhao states.

“Children are the future of every family, and moreover, they are the future of this country. As consumers, we have been greatly damaged,” the petition alleged. Chinese investigators also confirmed the presence of melamine in nearly 70 milk products from more than 20 companies, quality control official Li Changjiang admitted.

In addition, a group of Chinese lawyers, led by administrator Lin Zheng, filed Tuesday a $5.2 million lawsuit with the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China (under Chief Grand Justice Wang Shengjunin), in Beijing, on behalf of the families of 213 children’s families. The class-action product liability case against 22 dairy companies, include the largest case seeking $73,000 compensation for a dead child.

According to a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange Market Friday, China’s Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Company, which has a domestic market share of milk powder at 8 percent, reported a net loss in 2008 because of the milk scandal. A Morgan Stanley report states the expected company’s 2008 loss at 2.3 billion yuan. The scandal also affected Yili’s domestic rivals China Mengniu Dairy Company Limited and the Bright Group. Mengniu suffered an expected net loss of 900 million yuan despite earnings in the first half of 2008, while the Bright Group posted a third quarter loss at 271 million yuan last year.

New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra, said Saturday it accepted the Chinese court’s guilty verdicts but alleged it had no knowledge of the criminal actions taken by those involved. “We accept the court’s findings but Fonterra supports the New Zealand Government’s position on the death penalty. We have been shocked and disturbed by the information that has come to hand as a result of the judicial process,” said Fonterra Chief Executive Andrew Ferrier.

“Fonterra deeply regrets the harm and pain this tragedy has caused so many Chinese families,” he added. “We certainly would never have approved of these actions. I am appalled that the four individuals deliberately released product containing melamine. These actions were never reported to the Sanlu Board and fundamentally go against the ethics and values of Fonterra,” Ferrier noted.

Fonterra, which controls more than 95 percent of New Zealand’s milk supply, is the nation’ biggest multinational business, its second-biggest foreign currency earner and accounts for more than 24 percent of the nation’s exports. Fonterra was legally responsible for informing Chinese health authorities of the tainted milk scandal in August, and by December it had written off its $200 million investment in Sanlu Group.

Amnesty International also strongly voiced its opposition to the imposition of capital punishment by the Chinese local court and raised concerns about New Zealand’s implication in the milk scandal. “The death penalty will not put right the immense suffering caused by these men. The death penalty is the ultimate, cruel and inhumane punishment and New Zealand must take a stand to prevent further abuses of human rights.” AI New Zealand chief executive Patrick Holmes said on Saturday.

“The New Zealand government does not condone the death sentence but we respect their right to take a very serious attitude to what was extremely serious offending,” said John Phillip Key, the 38th and current Prime Minister of New Zealand and leader of the National Party. He criticized Fonterra’s response Monday, saying, “Fonterra did not have control of the vertical production chain, in other words they were making the milk powder not the supply of the milk, so it was a difficult position and they did not know until quite late in the piece. Nevertheless they probably could front more for this sort of thing.”

Keith Locke, current New Zealand MP, and the opposition Green Party foreign affairs spokesman, who was first elected to parliament in 1999 called on the government and Fonterra to respond strongly against the Chinese verdict. “They show the harshness of the regime towards anyone who embarrasses it, whether they are real criminals, whistleblowers or dissenters,” he said. “Many Chinese knew the milk was being contaminated but said nothing for fear of repercussions from those in authority. Fonterra could not get any action from local officials when it first discovered the contamination. There was only movement, some time later, when the matter became public,” he noted.

Green Party explained “it is time Fonterra drops its overly cautious act.” The party, however, stressed the death penalty is not a answer to the problems which created the Chinese milk scandal. “The Green Party is totally opposed to the death penalty. We would like to see the government and, indeed, Fonterra, speaking out and urging the Chinese government to stop the death penalty,” said Green Party MP Sue Kedgley.

Copiapó, Chile mining accident: in depth

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

The rescue of the Chilean miners trapped in the San José Mine in Copiapó, codenamed Operación San Lorenzo (San Lorenzo Operation), began on Tuesday night, at around 20:00 local time (23:00 UTC).

Florencio Ávalos was the first miner to be rescued, at 00:12 local time (03:12 UTC) on Wednesday. He was wearing a shirt signed by all his fellow miners. “The first miner is already with us. We saw it all, him hugging his wife Monica and his son Byron,” said President Piñera shortly after the first rescue. “We still have a long journey.”

“This will be recorded on every single Chilean heart forever,” Piñera added. “I hope the miners’ hope stay with us, just like the [February] earthquake victims’ [hope] and what the earthquake took off. We know that the disasters unite us all.”

All the 33 miners were rescued. The last miner, Luis Urzúa, was rescued at 21:55 Chile time (00:55 UTC). “It is a pleasure to be Chilean, [I’m] proud,” said Luis Urzúa to President Piñera. “In honour of the miners, their families, the rescuers […] let’s sing our national anthem. Viva Chile Mierda!,” said Piñera. Urzúa thanked Mining Minister Golborne and the First Lady Cecilia Morel for “fighting for their lives.” “I’m proud of my fellow miners,” Urzúa added.

Six rescuers, including a miner and a paramedic, descended to the miners’ shelter using the Fénix 3 capsule which was specially constructed for the rescue. They performed check-ups and talk with the miners before taking them back to the surface. The rescuers still don’t leave the mine.

The Fénix 3 capsules are 3.95 metres in height and weigh about 460 kilograms. They have an armour, an oxygen tube and a microphone. The occupants helmets contain an intercom to keep them in contact with the rescue team on the surface.

President of Chile Piñera assisted to the rescue. Bolivian President Evo Morales could not attend Carlos Mamani’s rescue. Mamani is the only Bolivian miner in the group.

A mass for the miners was conducted at 18:00 local time (21:00 UTC). The rescue takes between 15 and 20 minutes for each miner.

On Tuesday, Mayor of Copiapó Maglio Cicardini announced that the municipal schools in the city will have no classes this Wednesday “to transform the rescue of the Atacama’s 33 in a familiar meeting,” Radio Cooperativa reported.

“The miners will be taken to the Copiapó Regional Hospital for medical checkup, where they will have to stay for 48 hours,” Health Minister Mañalich said to Televisión Nacional de Chile.

Celebrations are taking place in several Chilean cities. In Santiago de Chile, people gathered in one of the most important points of the city, Plaza Italia. In Pichilemu, tens of cars are passing over its most important streets. In Copiapó, people gathered in its main square to assist a massive concert.

On August 5, 33 miners were trapped more than 700 meters (2,300 ft) underground, in the San José copper–gold mine, located about 40 kilometers north of Copiapó, Chile.

The youngest trapped miner is 19 years old, and the oldest is 63. There were several rescue attempts before reaching the miners’ shelter on August 22. The National Emergencies Office of Chile (ONEMI) released a list of the trapped miners on August 6, which included Franklin Lobos Ramírez, a retired footballer.

Chile is the worlds top producer of copper, according to The Economist. The San José Mine is owned by the San Esteban Mining Company (Empresa Minera San Esteban). The mine was closed down in 2007, after relatives of a miner who had died sued the company executives, but the mine was re–opened in 2008.

It was originally estimated that “it would take three to four months to complete the rescue of the trapped miners”. Demonstrators protest Condoleezza Rice’s trip to Australia

Thursday, March 16, 2006

Anti-war demonstrators in Sydney, Australia on Thursday dubbed U.S. Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice a “war criminal” and “murderer.” Two protesters were evicted and five people were arrested during protests against the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

Dr Rice, on a three-day trip to Australia, said she understood why people found it hard to be positive about Iraq when all they saw on their television screens was violence.

Soon after Rice began her speech at the University of Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music, two protesters shouted from the rear of the auditorium, “Condoleezza Rice, you are a war criminal,” and “Iraqi blood is on your hands and you cannot wash that blood away.” Standing with their palms towards her, the young man and woman repeated their accusation until security intervened to remove them from the hall.

About 15 minutes into Rice’s address, a third protester appeared at a balcony door, interrupting her speech as she referred to freedom. “What kind of freedom are you talking about? You are a murderer,” said the demonstrator before he was quietly escorted from the hall. “I’m very glad to see that democracy is well and alive here at the university,” she said.

In her speech, Rice sought to justify the U.S. occupation of Iraq, describing Iraqis as now more free. One student asked about abuses committed by U.S. forces at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. She said the abuses had made her “sick to her stomach.” However, she defended Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where human rights groups say detainees are held in inhumane conditions and in detention flouting international laws.

Before Rice began her speech, about 50 protesters were gathered at the front gates of the Conservatorium. The group were confronted by police on horseback and by police dogs. Police used the horses to charge into the group of activists and push them back, as a police helicopter hovered.

A police spokeswoman said the group was blocking pedestrian access to the building and that police had spent more than 20 minutes warning them to move. The police then moved in and pushed the crowd back 20 metres. Police say five people have been charged with “hindering police in the execution of their duties.”

The “Stop the War Coalition” says Rice is a “war criminal” and is not welcome in Australia. The group’s spokeswoman, Anna Samson, says the protest is one of many planned in the lead-up to the third anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq on March 20.

Paddy Gibson, from the University of Sydney’s Student’s Council, says the protest is in opposition to the Iraq war, and to the use of the University of Sydney’s campus to host Rice, “the most powerful woman in the world,” who they say is a war criminal. “They’re saying, ‘… you’ve got Sydney Uni’s support to stand up and peddle your murderous hate speeches,’ which is what we see it,” he said.

“You’ve got 180,000 people killed, as we said, for no other reason than strategic control of the region’s oil resources. And the anti-Muslim racism that’s been whipped up to justify this war is being felt by Sydney University students,” said Mr Gibson.

Finding Accurate Psychic Readings

Submitted by: Golden Task

Accurate psychic readings can give you many insights into your life. They may be able to tell you if you will be married, what your future spouse will be like, and if you will have children. Most people consult a psychic to find out about their love life, but psychics can also tell you about your career or job and about other areas of your life. If you really want to find accurate psychic readings, you need to find a psychic who is gifted and can communicate with the spiritual world that most people are not able to do.

Psychics may be clairvoyant, which means that they are able to see visions of the future. When you ask them if you will meet your true love or soul mate, they may see a vision of you with that person in the future. They can then tell you some things about your future mate. Accurate psychic readings need to be done by real psychics who truly have the gift of being a clairvoyant, or the psychic may be empathetic or clairaudient. An empathetic psychic can feel other people’s feelings, but they need to “tune in” to this gift, just as a clairvoyant needs time to concentrate in order to see the future. Still other psychics are clairaudient. They are able to hear messages in their mind and to tell you things that you want to know.

One important factor about getting accurate psychic readings is to realize the nature of a psychic. A psychic is not a magician who can wave a magic wand to find answers to hundreds of questions. First of all, the psychic needs a few minutes to tune into the client’s aura or energy field that surrounds the person. They may talk to you for a few minutes so they can tune into your energy. A psychic who gives accurate readings can’t be rushed because they cannot make answers magically appear. They may be able to tell you the answer to your question, but it is also likely that they will only see part of the answer.

This is the difference between a fake psychic and psychics who really have spiritual gifts. Fake psychic readers will act as if they have all of the answers that you want, and they may even tell you exactly what you want to hear. For example, if someone says, “I hope that I meet my soul mate,” the fake psychic may make up a story in which this happens. An accurate psychic reading may tell you that it is not going to happen, or that you won’t meet this person until your senior years. Anyone who wants accurate psychic readings needs to be prepared to hear the truth.

One thing to keep in mind is that those with true psychic gifts will not tell you anything that is not for your personal growth or for your own good. You probably won’t be able to know when you are going to die, when the world will end, or factors like that from a genuine psychic. This is because telling you these things would not be the best thing for you. Some things are not meant to be known. Even if a psychic sees this in a reading, it is not considered ethical to reveal certain things to a client that may harm them in some way.

There are real psychics on websites that feature hundreds of psychics that are capable of providing accurate psychic readings, but chances are good that some of those who claim to have clairvoyant, empathetic, or clairaudient abilities may have only a little bit of this extraordinary power. Sometimes waiting for the psychic reader that you want to get your reading from who is not available immediately is worth the wait. Psychics who have good reputations for giving accurate psychic readings may have people waiting in line to talk to them.

Another great way to find accurate psychic readings is to search for psychics who are not affiliated with large corporate websites. Some of them work on their own or in smaller companies. One of the best things to do is to use your own intuition or gut feeling. If you have a feeling that a psychic may be able to give you an accurate reading, that is probably the best one to choose.

Psychic readings are great and can be exhilarating and a life changing experience.

Shots reported during Superdome evacuation

Thursday, September 1, 2005

Air evacuation of the Superdome was temporarily halted Thursday after shots were reportedly fired at a military helicopter.

Evacuations by bus continue, despite an early news report to the contrary. Thousands of people taking temporary shelter in the Superdome and nearby areas in New Orleans are being evacuated after Mayor Ray Nagin ordered a complete evacuation of the city, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Evacuees will be taken to the Astrodome in Houston, Texas.

Looting has become an increasing concern, as looters and gangs are beginning to rob hotels and hospitals. Some looters have even been able to take guns from abandoned shops. Officials say that they are concerned about the increasing number of people with guns. Police officers stranded on the roof of a hotel reported shots fired at them.

President George W. Bush plans to visit the affected areas on Friday. Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush are expected to lead a private fund-raising campaign for the victims of the hurricane, similar to the campaign after the oceanic earthquake and resulting tsunami in late 2004.
